The area is perhaps best known for the excellent walking and hiking, with easy access to the Brecon Becons and The Black Mountains. The choice of walks and trails is too extensive to list here, but here are just a few of the routes easily accessible from Trout Cottage :
- Offas Dyke
- Hatterall Hill
- Sugar Loaf
- The Gaer
- Llanthony Priory
- The Brecon & Monmouthshire Canal
- Grwyne Fawr
- The Olchon Valley
In addition to the many local organised events (See Local Events page), we can arrange a number of local activities on behalf of guests if we are given advanced notice . These include :
- Soap-making (see Courses)
- Cheese-making (see Courses)
- Guided walks – tailored to your needs and capabilities
- Spoon carving (see Courses)
- Canoe hire
Cycling : Abergavenny is famed for its annual cycling festival (see Events), and there’s a tremendous choice of cycle routes in the area, including the renowned Gospel Pass – just up the valley from Trout Cottage.
- White Castle
….all lie within this area.
Part of our ongoing commitment to providing a comprehensive list of activities in the area involves mapping as many and as varied walks as possible. If you are able and willing to do so, you can download ‘Endomondo’ or ‘map my walk’ and find real routes that have been walked by real people in the area. It can provide a wonderful resource if you would like to map your own activities here and add them to the application too.
Many thanks for your involvement!
