“Trout Cottage is a charming place to stay. It is a very short drive from Offa’s Dyke Path, and there are a couple of pubs nearby. We chose to picnic by the river behind the cottage, though. We strolled through the gardens and apiary and enjoyed throwing a ball for the friendly dog. The varied hens were very interesting to watch, too. The room was comfortable and clean (watch your head on the low beams!), and the bathroom was sparkling. There are a few stairs with a door right at the bottom, but that is just part of being in a very old house. Breakfast was outstanding and was served in the delightful conservatory. David and Andrea are very creative, so be sure you ask them about the craft items in the dining room and just beyond”.

“Andrea and David made us very welcome from the minute we arrived and were perfect hosts. Their cosy home is enhanced by the fruits of their labours, such as homespun wool, scented soaps and homegrown produce. We spent a cosy evening reading by the fire in the company of their two cats.”

“Andrea and David were amazing hosts. We were welcomed by a lovely dinner prepared for us on the night of our arrival. The next morning we were greeted by a gourmet and locally sourced breakfast! They were also so thoughtful and generous to cater to my myriad of dietary requirements. Feeling nourished and energized we set off with David as our personal guide on a scenic drive through quaint little roads tunneled with gorgeous foliage to arrive at the 12th-century Llanthony Priory. David was incredibly informative regarding the history of the priory and the surrounding natural environment of the valley. Next, assisted by the local sheep, David led us on the most picturesque hike through the hills of the black mountains. As we trekked through newly fallen snow, we gazed out on breathtaking views of the valleys crowned by bountiful snowcapped hills that waved in luscious greens, crisp reds, oranges and yellows. We also learned about the native habitat and the efforts in progress to restore this precious land to ecological balance. Back at the cottage we warmed by the old style wood burning stove with cups of hot cocoa and great books from the reading library. Before leaving we purchased the most heartfelt gifts for loved ones back home including Andrea’s delicious homemade jam and aromatic soaps. David and Andrea are intelligent, talented, open hearted and shining examples of what it means to live close to and in harmony with our natural environment on all levels. Our stay exceeded our expectations in every way! So, if you’ve never been to the valleys of Wales, or wondered if it’s really possible to live a self-sustaining life, you should right now go pack your bags and head out to Trout Cottage!”

Nicole and Daveed, California Nov 2016

“Andrea and David are probably the best hosts we have had from Airbnb. Andrea made little cakes for us in the evenings which were delicious, David knew all the local walks and was a wonderful tour guide, and the breakfast was second to absolutely none! Fantastic hosts. Fantastic stay”.

Charlie and Laura, London, Dec 2016

“Lovely place, glad we came to try your hospitality and food. Thank you, Andrea and David, will be back again. What a great place to stay, we arrived Friday and were welcomed by Andrea and David into their lovely home, there was a secure place for our bikes and David very knowledgeable about cycling routes in the area. Lovely comfy bed after a long day in the saddle and a great breakfast to set us up for another long ride, would recommend Trout Cottage for anyone wanting a a lovely place to stay to relax or to walk or cycle, with pubs serving food a walkable distance. We will definitely return”.

Sandra and Charlie, Ashton -under-Lyne, October ’16

“Such a lovely stay in Trout Cottage with Andrea and David. They were so welcoming and hospitable. Breakfast was delicious as were their homemade cakes and biscuits. The cottage is very rural which suited us just fine and is a 10-15 minute walk from The Skirrid Pub which sold some lovely cider! Many thanks Andrea and David we all had a lovely stay with you”.

-Linda and Steve  Banbury Jun 2016

“I have just returned from the best holiday of my life thanks to my one week stay at the tranquil and beautiful Trout cottage! The purpose of my trip was to rest and enjoy the Hay book festival as well as walks in the national park. I did it all thanks to Andrea and David, a warm and friendly couple who live in genuine harmony with nature and their delightful pets and chickens! I had a delicious, organic breakfast every morning with good coffee, fresh eggs and home made jams to smother on freshly baked bread and also had the pleasure of enjoying a three course dinner on my last night prepared by Andrea. I didn’t have a car, but both Andrea and David kindly offered to give me a lift whenever they were going into town. David was a great guide in terms of exploring the area and I went on three amazing walks based on his recommendations. I also had a half day course on spoon carving with a charming local artisan who taught me how to make a wooden spoon, but also shared his extensive knowledge about working with wood in general. My room was clean, comfortable and cosy and the bed even more so. The bathroom was kept spotlessly clean throughout my stay. The pictures of the cottage and garden posted on this website are beautiful, but just wait until you are reading your book by the river, with your weary legs up on the wood post after a long walk, accompanied by birds chirping in the hedges and soft evening sunlight gracing the flowers and trees in the garden. If you are looking for a place to truly rest, relax and explore South Wales you have just found it!”

“Lovely stay in this house ! Very good welcoming, Andrea and David are very nice and they will make you feel like at home very quickly ! To be recommended !!”

Max, Rotherham April 2016

“This was an excellent two days at Andrea and David’s beautiful cottage at foot of the Black mountains. Words cant do justice to the experience we had and the ease with which everything was handled for us! The cottage is cozy and warm, the breakfasts are exceptionally delicious and provided excellent fuel for the day and of course the hosts are two of the most wonderful people who made us feel very welcome, gave us excellent advice on the best walks to do in the area and were very accommodating in general. I would definitely recommend staying here if anyone wants to explore the Brecon Beacons park”.

Salil, London April 2016

“Beautifully location, comfortable bed, delicious home made food. every window has a fantastic view. Trout Cottage is ideal to get away from it all”.

Derek, Rotherham April 2016

“Andrea and David are really warm, welcoming hosts and I’d recommend staying with them in an instant. They were ready to recommend walks, places to eat and to give us a lift in their car. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely decorated and really do have good beds. The hosts’ genuine commitment to sustainable living, while easily worn, was a real plus. It meant that it was very interesting to talk with what this means for them in their local setting and some super tasty as-fresh-as-they-come eggs. Top marks for Trout Cottage, Andrea and David”.

Heather, London March 2016

We were made to feel extremely welcome by Andrea and David over our 2 days stay here. The house is surrounded by greenery with a stream and sheep making up the view out the back. Andrea and David cooked a lovely breakfast for us (using their own produce for the most part!). Anyone looking for a quiet, quaint getaway in a comfortable, serene cottage need look no further!
